Many guidebooks will tell you that the Road to Hana isn't about the destination, but it's about the journey. There is an element of truth to this, but the people writing these guides have clearly never spent much time in Hana town. Hana is a small plantation town on the eastern side of Maui. It is a bit like a place removed from time, and everything moves slowly. Hana isn't a place where you can be in a hurry, and it is considered by many to be the last undeveloped paradise on Maui. Folks in Hana are determined to enjoy life, land, sea, sun, and one another. This is a great place to unplug and just be. This is Hawaii. The real Hawaii.

There are plenty of places to explore and things to do in Hana like the black sand beach at Wai'anapanapa, the beautiful Kahanu Garden, Hamoa Beach, hiking to Fagan's cross, hang-gliding, and riding horses. However, perhaps the most appealing thing about Hana is the feeling of being removed from the fast pace of life that you came to the island to escape.

Yes, glad you asked! Here's the way the R2H team likes to do it:

1. Rent a Jeep Wrangler. There is no better way to experience the winding roads and rugged terrain.
2. Begin before 7 a.m. in Paia. There is so much to see, plus you’ll beat the crowds. Grab breakfast before you go at Charley's or Anthony's Coffee Co. in downtown Paia. Both have excellent service and their food is superb.
3. Fill up your gas tank before you go. The next filling station is in Hana Town!
4. Show aloha. Allow locals and lines of cars to pass.
5. Slow down. Take your time. This is not a race. There is no finish line. The only prize you'll receive is the sites you see and the memories you make.
6. Plan to spend at least one full day on the Road to Hana. We recommend two or more days. This will be your favorite part of Maui. This is the Hawaii you've grown up dreaming about.
7. Stay at least 1 or 2 nights in Hana. We recommend staying your entire vacation in Hana if you want to get away from the hustle and bustle and experience true paradise. This is the REAL Hawaii. Our favorite hotel is in Hana, plus there are several other options for any budget.
8. Drive the full loop. Don't listen to the naysayers. If you do, you'll miss out on some of Maui’s greatest visual treasures. Other guides and reviews will recommend you turn around after Hana. But there is so much more to see! Two of our favorite sites in Maui are beyond Hana town. Many will steer you away from this because of danger. The back side of the loop is a little bumpy from years of patching the road, but it's paved and completely safe. The only thing you will need to be sure to check is whether your rental car agency has any restrictions.
9. Support the local restaurants and food stands. Other guides and reviews will tell you there is no lunch until Hana. Our Road to Hana CD details all of the great local places to eat from Paia to Hana and beyond. Again, you will miss out on many delightful treats if you choose not to stop and support the locals.
10. Begin the journey prepared. Below is a list of items that will help you maximize your experience.

You will want to plan at least a full day on your vacation. We have sample itineraries in our Road to Hana CD for a 1 or 2-day experience. However, you could literally spend as much as an entire day at some of these spots. The longer you can devote to the Road to Hana, the more you will get to explore the real Hawaii.

Of course. The beginning of the road starts in Kahului on Highway 36 near the airport. The island of Maui is small enough that you can travel to any spot on the island from the airport in approximately two hours or less.

We strongly encourage our customers to spend at least a night or two in Hana. It breaks up the R2H experience and allows you to slow down and truly take in the sights of Hawaii. Our favorite place to stay on the island is at this hotel in Hana. It is paradise. Away from the noise and the tourism. One of the most peaceful places on earth. And there's so much to do there if you are wanting to spend more time in Hana. Read the question above, "What and where is Hana?"

The R2H brand and products were created and published by Journey Travel, a company formed in 2011 with the goal of creating a NEW type of travel guide.

Most travel guides only offer an exchange of information. Basically, you pay for their knowledge. We've taken travel guides a step further by asking questions like:

Our goal was to create a fresh approach to travel guides that fulfills the two main desires of tourists on their vacation to Hawaii: ADVENTURE + ROMANCE.

Contact our Customer Service Team with your questions regarding downloadable products and any error messages you receive while trying to place an order. All order inquiries should be directed to this team as well.

All downloadable products require a high speed internet connection such as Cable, DSL, or Satellite internet. Please do not attempt to use a dial up connection.

You can access your download in two ways. First, simply click the link under "Download Your Purchase" on the receipt page of the checkout. If you have already closed that window, that's okay. You were sent an email of your receipt and there's a link to download your product there as well. When the dialogue box appears, select "Save File to Disk" and select your desktop as the destination. Go to your desktop and find your downloadable goods. You are done!

Our files have been zipped (compressed) to decrease download times. Both Windows and Mac OS have built-in software that will convert the zipped file into a usable file when you click on the file to open it.

Make sure you have a blank disc inserted in the CD tray of your computer. For the best user experience, open the MP3s you have download with iTunes. It will gather all of these files into one album for you along with the R2H album artwork. Use the "Burn to Disc" option once you have selected all of the R2H tracks.

We have chosen USPS because it's cheap, reliable, and it only takes 4-5 days to reach your front door. Allow up to 2 additional business days for order processing. Most orders ship same day!

We currently only ship to the US and Canada from the online store, but we are researching future solutions for our international customers. If you do have a U.S. Compatible debit card, or a PayPal account, we would recommend our downloadable product - no shipping charges, no customs fee, no waiting.

You will be given the option to create an account at the point of checkout. This is optional and you can certainly checkout as a guest. However, once you have an account with us, you will have your encrypted information stored for your return visits. Our system allows one account per email address.

Click on the "Forgot My Password" link when prompted at checkout. For your security, we will email you a temporary password to the email address that was supplied when the account was created.

Add items to your shopping cart by clicking "Add to Cart." Your cart contents are preserved while you continue to shop. When you are ready to checkout, simply click the "Checkout" link in your cart or at the top of the page.

After you have created an account in our store, please store your username and password in a secure area. When choosing a password, do not use phrases or words that represent you in any way, such as your name or personal numbers. Choose a password that is unique. Never give your password to another person.

Our store interface is designed for the average computer monitor resolution (display pixels) of 1024x768. If you are using a monitor that displays a 800x600 resolution, please follow your owner's manual to adjust your monitor's resolution to 1024x768 or higher. If you are not able to boost your monitor resolution, please use your browser's scrollbars to view the store display area.

All orders will be processed within 2 business days, however most of our orders are shipped within 24 hours of your purchase.

Ultimately, we want you to feel that you have been treated well by our team, which exists to make sure your vacation to Hawaii is the most unforgettable experience of your life.

If you are not completely satisfied with any product you purchase from us, and you want to return it or get a refund, we want to make that easy for you. With that in mind, here are the simple rules:

1. Tangible Products
   Tangible products must be returned in their original condition, unless they were defective or were damaged when you received them. If these requirements are met, and no more than 90 days have passed since you purchased the items you are returning, a refund will be issued without question. Refunds will always be issued in the same manner as payment was received (for example: payment by credit card will result in a refund by credit card). Shipping costs are never refunded. We will notify you by email when the products you return are received by us. Please allow up to 10 business days for the processing of your refund after you have been notified that the products have arrived to the R2H team.

    

2. Downloads
   Downloads cannot be returned unless they are deemed inherently defective and unusable. You must verify the compatibility of your system before buying downloadable items. Incompatibility with your system is not an acceptable reason for a refund.
